Project Bags

I've been in a sewing mood lately and I have made a bunch of bags in 2018 so far. In addition to the Celestial Stars Bag and The Marauder's Map Collection, I have made some project bags for my knitting and tatting projects.

First, I made a fairly large project bag for knitting using this Art Gallery Fabrics canvas I had been saving.

I loved it so much, that I made a whole bunch more bags (that were quickly adopted by friends)! All made in January 2018

I have also been tatting a lot more in 2018, so I made a small quilted bag for my tatting. I am doing a tat-a-long with The Greater Birmingham Fiber Guild, so I made this bag to match my project (Tatting project is called Rosaleen by tattingbythebay.blogspot.com, free PDF pattern can be found here).

Celestial Stars Bag

After making my Marauder's Map cross-body bag, I ended up loving the fabrics from the "back" so much that I wanted a new bag. I had a rough idea of the style I wanted, so I set about making this bag.

I absolutely love the end result. This bag turned out exactly how I wanted it to!

Features - Fully quilted bag with two interior pockets (one large slip and one small zipper) and key hook. Bag has an optional zipper closure.

The Golden Snitch Mini Quilt

I had a little left over of the quilted side panel of my recent Celestial Star bag (since the bag had no pattern, I made the side panels as one long segment and then only cut off what I needed once I could partially assemble the bag). The excess sat on the table for a few days while I debated what to make - either a super small pouch or a wall hanging. I was tidying up scraps and saw the one I used for the snitch and knew what I should make!

I used the bottom of clean single serve yogurt container for my circle for the snitch. I use steam-a-seam and cut out my snitch. I then chalked outlined it but did not applique it to the quilt yet. I then chalk outlined where I wanted the wings and stitched them (hiding the end under where the snitch will go). Only then did fully I applique the snitch on with Steam-a-seam. I then did a blanket edge stitch around the snitch. I added hanging tabs to the back and bound like a quilt.

I love the end result. It's perfect for my little one's room. Hopefully she'll love Harry Potter and quidditch just like me!

The Marauder's Map Collection

A friend told me that our local Joann Fabrics had some good Harry Potter fabrics in. Naturally I had to go investigate. I came back with a little of The Marauder's Map fabric. I absolutely love this print, but the repeat is rather strong, so I feel it is best cut into small panels.

I made one mini quilt for my little one to play with, two small zipper pouches, and one small cross-body bag. All projects were made in January - February 2018.
